Programme Activities

To broaden students’ perspectives and enhance their inter-cultural competence in a globalized world, local and overseas field trips are arranged throughout the Programme. Through site visits, students are able to appreciate the diversity of urban forms and social fabrics and to interact with students, practitioners and policy makers from different cities. Field trips organised outside Hong Kong include Wuhan, Yangon, Taipei, and Seoul. To further increase their international exposure, students are strongly encouraged to participate in overseas exchange programmes. In particular, the Department offers departmental exchange opportunities with the University of Amsterdam, the University College London, Tsinghua University and the University of California. An element of professional training through internships is also incorporated into the Programme to provide students with opportunities to gain practical working experience and explore potential career paths in the summer of Year 3 of their studies.

Martin

BAUS Year 4 student

The teachers in the BAUS programme come from very different backgrounds allowing us to understand topics from various perspectives and schools of thought. They encourage us to make good progress and give us extensive guidance on topics ranging from our term projects to future career choices.

Virginia

BAUS Year 4 student

There are a lot of useful skills that I gained through these years of study in the BAUS programme. In particular, project and studio form a very important part of our courses. For each course, I get to collaborate with classmates and my communication skills have improved a lot. Focusing on local urban issues, these projects also offer very practical insights into everyday urbanism in a dense city. By taking this chance, I get to explore the city very often and have discovered many interesting places of Hong Kong.
