Visas and Other Requirements

The Conference Secretariat is not responsible for the issuance of a visa. If you need a visa to attend the Conference in Hong Kong or participate in the Technical Tour to China, you are advised to submit your visa application to the appropriate authorities as early as possible. It is easier and faster to obtain a tourist visa than other forms of visas.

  • For attending the Conference in Hong Kong

Visa requirements are different according to each country. Visitors to Hong Kong must hold a passport that is valid for at least six months before the planned departure date to Hong Kong. Visitors from most countries are not required to obtain visas and can stay for periods varying from seven days to 180 days, depending on nationality. Please check the web site of the Hong Kong Immigration Department and the Chinese embassy or consulate to find out whether you need to apply for an entry visa to Hong Kong.

If you need a Letter of Invitation to apply for a visa to attend the Conference, please send the following information to the Conference Secretariat by email cupumhk@hkucc.hku.hk:

1. Your name as it appears in your passport
2. Your position
3. Your affiliation/organization
4. Your address to receive the letter
5. Email address for receiving the Letter of Invitation (PDF)
6. Your passport number

Letter of Invitation will only be sent to participants who have registered and paid for the Conference. If you pay for the Conference and your visa is denied, the Conference will refund your registration fee less a nominal handling charge. If you have additional queries about passport and visa, please consult the local Chinese Consulate or your travel agency.

Please be advised that the Letter of Invitation is to assist you in your visa application to attend the Conference. It should be understood, however, that such an invitation is not a commitment on the part of the Conference Organizer to provide any financial support in attending the Conference.

  • For participating the Technical Tour to Shenzhen/Pearl River Delta

Participants for the optional fieldtrip to Shenzhen/Pearl River Delta may need to apply for a tourist visa to enter Mainland China. Please check with any Chinese embassy or consulate for the latest status and procedure.
