General information on Sanya’s economic development

    In 2004, Sanya achieved great success in economic development that the amplitude increase has been over 10% since year 1998. Roughly estimated, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Sanya City amounted to RMB 4.825 billion of 2005, 13.4% higher than the same period of 2004. In GDP, the Value-added of Primary Industry was RMB 1.918 billion, with a 7.8% increase compared to year 2004; the Value-added of Secondary Industry was RMB 1.151 billion, with a 22.3% increase and the Value-added of Tertiary Industry was RMB 1.756 billion, with a 14.5% increase. The Primary Industry, the Secondary Industry and the Tertiary Industry took up 24.3%, 35.9% and 39.8% respectively in the national economy. The GDP per capita was RMB 9545 in 2005, with a 12.1% increase compared to the same period of 2004.

    The problems which existed in the domestic economy and social development were following. First, the economic base is weak. The industry has weak base and its proportion is still low in economy. Second, the step of urban construction is slow and its influence to the rural development is not enough. Third, the income of farmers is not steady and grows very slow. Fourth, the severe employing and re-employing situation and for urban residents still exist.
