The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area comprises the 9 cities of Pearl River Delta region in Guangdong Province (i.e. Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Foshan, Dongguan, Zhongshan, Zhaoqing, Huizhou and Jiangmen), and the two Special Administrative Regions of Hong Kong and Macau. It was proposed in the attempts to “fully leverage the integrated advantages of the Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao region, deepen cooperation amongst Guangdong” as well as to “participate in international cooperation at a high level”[1].
The Greater Bay Area was firstly involved as one of the national development strategies in 2015 when it was authorized included in the Outline of the 13th Five-Year Plan of the People's Republic of China. The vision of Greater Bay Area was also stated clearly in Premier Li Keqiang’s report of government work in 2017 and 2018.
On 1 July 2017, the "Framework Agreement on Deepening Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Cooperation in the Development of the Greater Bay Area"[1] was signed in Hong Kong. A leading group for the development of the Greater Bay Area was then established, with the first plenary meeting held in August 2018 in Beijing.
This Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area Information Net is part of the Strategic Public Policy Research (SPPR) on Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area of the University of Hong Kong that aims to provide a one stop portal to search for information that are needed for doing business, travelling, and understanding the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area.
